Mental health of our LGBT community is my primary goal.
As a gay man and counselor, I have been working with issues around sexual orientation my whole life. Like all GLBTQI persons, the process of coming out and to whom we come out to-- friends, family, co-workers etc.- is one of our biggest challenges. Each and every disclosure can be painful or liberating. Supporting this process is key to the individual's joy and satisfaction in life.
I discovered my gay orientation at age 12, which my parents refused to recognize. I finally sought therapy as a teenager at age 17.
I personally lost over 30 friends and partners to AIDS and have much experience dealing with loss as well as supporting those who have had loss. I led many people through their last months.
I have been bashed for being gay, and as a result, acquired great empathy for any survivor of trauma. With deep sensitivity and expression of my feelings I am able to provide a safe place for people of all sexual orientations and gender identities..
I have also had the great privilege of being close friends and colleagues with people as they have transitioned to another gender.
