members and friends, the addicted person has an 80% chance of recovering from their addiction!
mobilize families and friends to help the addicted person get started in treatment. Unlike other forms of interventions, the ARISE intervention does not use the element of surprise. The family will invite the addicted person to the intervention. Respecting the addict in this way allows them to voluntarily enter treatment which significantly increases the rate of recovery, while establishing a close relationship with the family. The ARISE method is respectful of the family's relationships, culture, and history, and in the long-term nature of the relationship with the addicted person, while at the same time helping get the addicted person started in treatment and/or self-help. Research on ARISE showed a success rate of over 80% in assisting families getting their loved-ones into treatment. Once the addicted person has started in self-help or treatment, the ARISE Interventionist remains involved with you and your family throughout the treatment process and leads the family on the path of long term recovery. Example of an addiction intervention in my San Francisco family therapy practice
I made a special effort to arrange for a meeting with his family and friends to set up a network of support through them. His addiction had broken the bonds of love and trust in his family. Through alcohol he medicated the anger at himself for his failures in life. The family advocated for individual counseling and treatment in a 12-step recovery program. He made a commitment to stop drinking for his parents and brother. Even though he complained of the hard work involved in therapy, he always showed up for his appointments. I now meet with the family once a month for maintenance. His successful recovery is the result of a lot of long-term work.
higher. I recently had a client addicted to drugs and alcohol. His sister brought him in. She was very concerned and wanted to help. I met with every family member and the whole family came in to let the man know that they wanted to help him and offer support in the process of getting sober. With the help and support of his family, he achieved sobriety. When a family is willing to get involved with the recovery of one or more of its members, this is a great victory in itself. Most families are not willing to get involved at this level. Under these circumstances, great progress can happen quickly. Often I will work with each individual within the family and/or different groups of the family to prepare for a large family intervention. By getting to know each individual and how each person interacts with another, we can work out some interpersonal issues before including the whole group. I recently talked to him, and he is remaining sober.
